EU expected to lift all measures against Kosova today

TIRANA, March 2 – Today, the European Union is expected to lift all remaining measures against Kosova, according to unofficial sources in Brussels. They indicated that Monday could be the tentative date for the final decision.

Officials said that all decision-making procedures at the European Commission have been completed. Only the meeting of representatives from EU member states responsible for regional affairs remains.

At this meeting, which is expected on Monday, the lifting of measures against Kosova is likely to be approved, the public broadcaster reported.

The measures were introduced in June 2023. One year later, former EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell recommended lifting them. However, it took more than 18 months to formalize the decision.

Meanwhile, more than 400 million euros in EU financial assistance were blocked since then. By the end of 2025, half of these funds were released. The remaining portion is expected to be unlocked now.

The measures had also included suspending bilateral meetings between EU officials and Kosova government representatives, except for regional meetings.

Kosova remains a country that EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, has yet to visit. She plans to travel to Kosova this month. Officials said the ideal plan would be to use the visit to communicate the news about lifting the measures.
