EU Growth Plan for the Western Balkans/ 2 billion euro grants and 4 billion loans will be given in 4 years

The European Union approved on Thursday 65 billion euros in financing for the next 4 years. Out of this amount, 50 billion euros will be macro-financial assistance for Ukraine, approximately 10 billion will be allocated for managing illegal migration, and 6 billion will be designated for Western Balkan countries. The plan for 2 billion euros for the Balkans was previously presented by the European Commission.

However, the funds for it were not secured until now, and now the approval of the European Parliament is also required for the EU to commence providing financial assistance for economic growth in the region.

Out of the 6 billion euros, 2 billion will be in the form of grants, while 4 billion will be drawn in the form of favorable loans for which the European Union will provide guarantees. The European Commission emphasized that the use of these funds by the countries in the region will be conditional on the rule of law. Additionally, there will be specific conditions for Kosovo and Serbia related to their progress in the normalization process of their relations.
