Albania has recorded a sharp rise in tourist interest, with the number of visitors doubling over the past decade, Euronews Travel reports.

More and more travelers are discovering a country that combines history, beaches, nature and distinctive traditions.

According to Euronews Travel, Albania followed a different path from many other European countries. For decades, Enver Hoxha’s communist regime kept the country largely isolated from the outside world.

As a result, most international tourists knew little about Albania. However, the country gradually opened up after Hoxha’s death and the fall of communism in the early 1990s.

Foreign visitors then began arriving. Meanwhile, Albania gradually developed its infrastructure, hotels and tourism services.

Today, the Albanian coastline remains one of the country’s main attractions. From the Adriatic beaches to the Ionian Riviera, visitors enjoy crystal-clear waters, mountain landscapes and the combination of sea and nature.

However, Albania offers more than beach holidays. Its mountains, hiking trails and natural parks are also attracting a growing number of travelers. These visitors are looking for adventure and less traditional destinations.

In addition, Albania’s history adds another major attraction. Cities and regions across the country preserve traces of different historical periods. These include antiquity, the Roman era, Ottoman heritage and the history of the 20th century.

Meanwhile, Albania continues to gain international attention. The country has gradually transformed from a destination that was once largely closed to the world into a growing tourism market.

The increase in visitor numbers over the past decade reflects the expanding interest in Albania. At the same time, more travelers are discovering a country that remained largely outside Europe’s tourism map for many years.
