European Commissioner Marta Kos Says Albania’s EU Membership by 2030 Is Within Reach

In a recent interview with the German news outlet WELT, European Commissioner Marta Kos, among others, spoke about Albania’s ongoing efforts in the European Union accession process. She emphasized Albania’s steady progress in implementing key reforms, calling the enlargement process a broad economic and social transformation for the country and the Western Balkans region.
Kos highlighted that, if Albania continues its reform momentum, it could complete its EU membership negotiations by the end of 2027. This timeline makes EU membership by 2030 a realistic goal. She reassured that despite the accelerated process with Ukraine, Western Balkan countries like Albania and Montenegro will not be left behind in the enlargement process.
Kos also noted the importance of reforms for all candidate countries, stressing that the European Commission and member states expect clear results. The commissioner expressed optimism about the progress Albania has made, underscoring that enlargement is now a priority for the European Union.
