European Esports Championship Begins in Kosovo

Thirty-six teams from 24 European countries compete in the European Esports Championship. The event started today in Pristina. Matches will take place at the “1 Tetori” Sports Hall.
Kosovo hosts the championship. It also participates with its national team, according to KosovaPress.
At the official opening ceremony, Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti spoke in English. He noted that Esports is a new sport globally. However, Kosovo has a long history with Esports. Young Kosovars began playing electronic games years ago in internet cafés. This marked the start of their professional growth in the sport.
Kurti called on supporters to cheer for Kosovo’s team. The championship runs until July 13.
Altin Preniqi, President of Kosovo’s Esports Federation, called the event historic. He highlighted Esports’ high energy and vast global audience. He also noted that this is a rare opportunity to promote Kosovo internationally.
The championship is organized by Kosovo’s Esports Federation. The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports supports the event. The first match will be between Kosovo and the Czech Republic.
