European Literature Festival: Writer Milena Selimi Talks About the Literature of Transition

The European Literature Festival opened on 2 December and will run until 6 December in the capital. Twelve authors from eighteen EU countries are taking part and sharing their stories.
The EU Delegation in Tirana announced that, this evening, a talk with writer and translator Milena Selimi took place at Vila 31 x Art Explora. The event focused on the literature of transition and was supported by the Embassy of Bulgaria.
Selimi was born in Tirana. She has a long career in journalism and literary translation. She brought to the discussion a rich perspective on language and identity.
“The conversation focused on living and writing between two languages, on how identity takes shape during times of change, and on the role of literary translation in carrying stories across cultural borders,” the announcement said.
Together with moderator Ben Andoni, the event opened a space for reflection on language, belonging, and the bridges that translation creates between readers and stories.
These days, Tirana is turning into a lively literary hub. Readers, students, and young people are meeting contemporary writers and discovering the ideas, themes, and narratives shaping European literature today.
The festival program includes readings, discussions, book presentations, and creative workshops. The activities explore identity, migration, multilingualism, cultural memory, the challenges of young authors, and the impact of technology.
