Tirana is hosting a major security meeting with experts from the United States and Europe. The event brings together senior officials to discuss organized crime, terrorism and new security threats.

From September 19 to 23, Tirana hosts the 42nd European Chapter Meeting of the FBI National Academy Associates (FBINAA).

The agenda covers several security issues. These include organized crime, terrorism, online extremism, drones, cybercrime, criminal proceeds, asset seizures, narcotics and extraditions.

Senior officials from the Albanian State Police, the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK), the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH) and the Prosecutor’s Office are attending the meeting.

The US delegation includes FBI Deputy Assistant Director Spencer Horn and FBI Legal Attaché in Sofia Brendan Collins.

Meanwhile, participants are discussing the fight against organized crime. They are also examining the experience of the Budapest Organized Crime Task Force, which marks 25 years of cooperation.

Another session focuses on the US Joint Terrorism Task Force model. The model brings together several agencies to investigate terrorist threats.

The program also examines the online group “764.” US authorities have linked the group to forms of violent extremism and criminal activity online. An FBI official from Berlin is presenting the topic.

Participants will also discuss new forms of violent extremism. They will examine Albania’s experience in addressing these threats.

Drones will receive special attention as well. Experts from the FBI Laboratory Division will present technologies used to examine and analyze drones.

At the same time, participants will discuss cybercrime and international cooperation against criminal groups. They will also examine criminal proceeds and the role of financial intelligence in the fight against organized crime.

Another session will examine seized and confiscated assets. Participants will discuss ways to use these assets for public purposes.

In this context, BKH investigator Eduart Kaloshi will present a narcotics case investigated by the National Bureau of Investigation.

On the final day, participants will focus on extraditions and international cooperation. They will discuss Albanian procedures, practical challenges and ways to strengthen cooperation with other countries.
