Following Vulin’s statement of ‘Serbs and Greeks united against Albania’, Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs summoned in the Serbian ambassador

Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned in Serbian Ambassador Slobodan Vukcevic to provide explanations regarding statements made by Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin concerning Prime Minister Edi Rama’s meeting with the Albanian Diaspora in Athens.

The Ministry views Vulin’s remarks as provocative and contrary to the spirit of cooperation.

In an official announcement, the Ministry stated its expectation of an immediate response from Serbia to prevent such statements from impacting relations between Tirana and Belgrade.

The Ministry views the provocative statement by the Serbian official as inconsistent with the spirit of cooperation and detrimental to peace and stability in the Balkans. Albania plays a significant role in promoting peace and security in our region, and cooperation with Serbia is essential.

The Ministry expects an immediate response to prevent the recurrence of such damaging statements, ensuring that our relations remain focused on good neighborliness and European integration, the statement concluded.

Following the May 12 meeting between Prime Minister Rama and the Albanian Diaspora in Athens, Vulin stated that only Serbia and Greece should unite to prevent the formation of Greater Albania.

“The next time the government of Greece considers recognizing the so-called Kosova, let it recall Edi Rama’s reception in the heart of Athens. What Rama could not achieve in Tirana, he experienced in Athens. Kosova’s accession to the Council of Europe would constitute an unprecedented contribution by the Greek government and Dora Bakoyannis to the establishment of Greater Albania. Only Serbs and the Serbian world, as well as our dear Greeks, can prevent Greater Albania. Consider this carefully,” Vulin had stated.
