TIRANA, January 14 – The cultural wealth of Shkodër was the focus of a meeting between the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, and the mayor, Benet Beci.

Together with the ministry’s technical staff, they discussed a new cultural vision for Shkodër. It aims to integrate heritage, tourism, sustainable mobility, and modern infrastructure into a unified development approach.

At the heart of the vision is the “Gateway to the Alps,” a new cultural and tourist corridor. It seeks to position Shkodër as the main entry to the Albanian Alps. The project plans to connect green transport with public spaces and cultural offerings in an integrated structure.

The cultural vision includes creating a Museum Quarter, a new museum and creative hub placing culture at the center of urban development. Green routes for pedestrians and cyclists will link monuments, museums, and historic sites. Historical museums and houses will be revitalized to strengthen cultural identity and create new public spaces.

The ministry said the approach aims to preserve and highlight Shkodër’s rich heritage. It intends to make the city not only a high-level cultural destination but also a sustainable development center for the wider region.
