The National Historical Museum commemorated today Queen Geraldine (1915-2002) on what would have been her birthday.

She came from a well-known Hungarian family, with documented origins dating back to the medieval period when Hungary was conquered by the Árpád dynasty in 894. Her family played a role in establishing the Hungarian monarchy under the Árpád dynasty. Orphaned at a young age, she was cared for by her grandparents, the Aponny family. Countess Geraldine was then sent to an English school in Menton, France. Later, she attended Sacred Heart College in Pressbaum, near Vienna, Austria, where she completed her studies in Social and Financial Sciences.

Countess Geraldine devoted herself wholeheartedly to scenography, sociology, history, literature, and more.

During her brief stay in Albania, Geraldine dedicated herself to helping those in need. She contributed to the establishment and operation of institutions serving underprivileged groups, such as hospitals, orphanages, and homes for the elderly. She also worked to promote and advance women’s rights and their empowerment.
