German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock : Kosovo has done its job in terms of visa liberalization. Now the European Union must do its job

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said in Pristina that the European Union is extending its hand to the countries of the region on their path to the European Union. In this context, she mentioned the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia, where according to her, progress is needed. Annalena Baerbock, during her visit to Kosovo, was accompanied by Manuel Sarrazin, Germany’s Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, whom the German government appointed to this position on February 18, 2022.

“One of the most important issues is the strengthening of trust in the region. First of all, progress is needed in the dialogue process for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. “These two countries must also find a solution for holding early parliamentary and presidential elections in Serbia on April 3,” Baerbock said. Kosovo institutions, contrary to previous practice, have warned that they will not allow the organization of Serbian elections in Kosovo.

During her visit to Kosovo, the German Foreign Minister met with President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti. In a press conference together with the Prime Minister, Baerbock reconfirmed Germany’s support for Kosovo, in this context also on the issue of visa liberalization.

“Kosovo has done its job in terms of the visa liberalization process and now it is up to the European Union to do the same. For us, there are no more questions and we need visa liberalization for the citizens of Kosovo. We are working with all our might for this,” said the German Foreign Minister.
