Gërvalla: Any potential compromise for Ukraine is a recipe for the next war in the Balkans

Kosovo’s Foreign Minister, Donika Gërvalla, emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s victory in its war against Russia, stating that “any other compromise solution is a recipe for the next war in the Baltics, Poland, or the Western Balkans.”

Gërvalla made these comments at the Democracy Forum in Vilnius, Lithuania, titled “Solidarity and Support Among Democracies, Essential for Triumph Over Autocracies.” She was invited by her Lithuanian counterpart, Gabrielius Landsbergis, to participate in the event.

“Belief in democracy, solidarity among democratic nations, and a clear stance against aggressors are the key elements that will strengthen Europe’s democratic future and prevent the spread of extremism and populism, which could pose a threat to this continent’s future,” Gërvalla stated.

She also highlighted the critical significance of Ukraine’s victory in resisting Russian aggression, warning of the dire consequences of any compromise.

“Any other solution is a recipe for future conflict in the Baltics, Poland, or the Western Balkans, where we have a representative of Putin and Russia, who attacked my country last September using the same rhetoric, the same Putin tactics, and the same language that Putin used in Ukraine,” Gërvalla noted, referencing the terrorist attack on September 23, 2023, in Banjska, which led to the killing of a Kosovo police officer.

The responsibility for the attack was claimed by Milan Radoičić, who remains at large in Serbia.
