“Giro d’Italia” in Albania: Traffic Police Officers Begin Training for Cyclist Escort

The State Police has launched training sessions for Traffic Police officers who will escort cyclists during the “Giro d’Italia 2025” tour.

The training is taking place at the Security Academy, led by senior experts from Italy’s Police and Ministry of the Interior. Among them are High Director Eugenio Amorosa, advisor to Italy’s Ministry of the Interior, and First Director Mirella Pontiggia, head of the Verona Traffic Police Section, joined by experts from the Italian Security Office in Tirana.

The delegation was welcomed by the Rector of the Security Academy, High Director Ilir Mandro, and the Head of the Traffic Police Directorate, First Director Altin Qato.

Rector Mandro introduced the Italian experts to the Academy’s transformation and assured them that the State Police is fully committed to ensuring a safe and well-managed event—one that further enhances Albania’s image on the global stage.

Qato noted the additional challenges posed by the ongoing electoral process and Albania’s limited experience with events of this scale but affirmed the State Police is prepared to manage the tour successfully, in coordination with all relevant institutions.

The multi-day training includes theoretical sessions and field visits in the regions of Tirana, Durrës, Elbasan, and Vlora, where three stages of the “Giro d’Italia 2025” will take place from May 9 to 11.
