EU Ambassador to Albania Silvio Gonzato visited key infrastructure projects in Berat today, all funded by the European Union. These investments aim to improve access, protect heritage, and boost sustainable tourism.

The tour included the bridge in Bilça over the Osum River, fully financed by the EU. It also covered the new road to Mount Tomorr and riverbank protection near Gorica neighborhood. Panoramic viewpoints along the Osum River were part of the itinerary as well.

Gonzato met with former mayor Ervin Demo and acting mayor Ervin Ceca. He said each stop confirmed Berat’s status as a cultural gem and a key destination for sustainable development.

The EU has invested over €6 million in Berat through the Tourism-Led Local Economic Development Model. This program, run in partnership with the EBRD and implemented by the Albanian Development Fund, goes beyond construction. It focuses on long-term impact for local communities.

These projects improve connectivity, safeguard cultural and natural heritage, and open new opportunities. Moreover, they align with Albania’s vision for inclusive growth and its path toward EU integration.

Gonzato stressed the EU’s strong partnership with Berat. He said the goal is not only better infrastructure but also a better future, one shaped by tourism, community, and shared values.
