Greenfield: We condemn the attacks on Kosova. Prishtina and Belgrade to urgently reduce tensions

The US ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield has stated that the United States remains committed to peace and stability in the Western Balkans.

Linda Thomas-Greenfield has asked Kosova and Serbia to refrain from uncoordinated or escalating actions. “And we urge them to return to the EU-facilitated Dialogue, which the United States continues to strongly support,” she said in her address at the UN Security Council.

The ambassador expressed concern about Kosova’s plan to implement the CBK regulation on the Serbian dinar.

“However, the United States has expressed concerns with Kosova’s plan to implement the amended regulations of the Central Bank of Kosova on cash transactions. The decision was taken without adequate preparation or consultation with the local population.

Thus, we call once again that the implementation of this plan be postponed immediately until satisfactory procedures are established in accordance with European standards and practices of good governance and the affected population is sufficiently educated about the process that this transition will follow,” said the ambassador.

Linda Thomas-Greenfield has repeated the sentence for the attacks in the Banjska Monastery on September 24.

“The United States reiterates our condemnation of the coordinated, violent Serbian paramilitary attacks on the Kosova Police near Banjska Monastery on September 24, which resulted in the tragic death of a Kosova Police Sergeant.

We again call on Serbia to pursue full responsibility for the perpetrators and organizers of the September 24 attack. Serbia should also work with KFOR to ensure that another attack like this does not happen again,” she underscored.

The latter reiterated once again that the dialogue mediated by the EU is the best mechanism to reconcile the issues between Kosova and Serbia and to end the crises cycle.
