Richard Grenell, former U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, reacted to the Hague verdict against former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders.

Grenell called on Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti to move quickly to dissolve what he described as a foreign court.

“The Hague court’s conviction of Hashim Thaçi for a war fought 25 years ago is shameful,” Grenell said.

He also criticized the proceedings and questioned the role of the judges and prosecutors involved.

Grenell claimed that the court had turned the case into a political process. He also referred to the role of former U.S. President Bill Clinton’s advisers during the Kosovo war.

Meanwhile, Grenell called on the U.S. State Department and the Justice Department to act quickly. He argued that American taxpayers fund what he described as politically motivated prosecutions and said this should stop.

“Albin Kurti should also move quickly to dissolve this foreign court. Members of Parliament should stand with Kurti to make this possible. Kosovo does not need a court in the Netherlands,” Grenell said.
