The Halveti Tekke in Berat ranks among the finest architectural achievements of the late 18th century.

Governor Ahmet Kurt Pasha built it between 1781 and 1782. It stands east of the King Mosque and sits within a courtyard surrounded by later-built konaks. A plaque above the first window on the right of the entrance marks its construction.

Inside the prayer hall, a wooden balcony, or mahfil, is carved and painted. The walls display eight frescoes depicting homes, Muslim religious objects, and natural landscapes. Openings below the frescoes improve the hall’s acoustics.

The wooden ceiling of the prayer hall is richly decorated with paintings. Artists designed it in a Baroque style adapted to Islamic art and gilded it with gold leaf.

The tekke’s portico features five stone columns taken from the ancient city of Apollonia. Above the main door, an inscription honors the tekke’s significance and Governor Ahmet Kurt Pasha.
