Hasani Urges Acceleration of Kosova’s Membership in Adriatic Charter

At a working breakfast organized by Albania’s chairmanship with the member countries of the US-Adriatic Charter (A-5), Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to promoting peace, stability, dialogue, and increased cooperation in the Western Balkans.
“Albania remains a strong advocate for the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Balkans,” said Minister Hasani. He emphasized that, as chair of the Adriatic Charter, Albania’s key priority is maintaining an open-door policy.
“A positive response to Kosovo’s longstanding request for membership is a critical and overdue step that must be addressed as soon as possible,” Hasani stressed.
The meeting included member and observer states of the Adriatic Charter: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, the USA, Kosovo (observer), Serbia (observer), and Slovenia (guest).
Held during the UN High-Level Week, the working breakfast highlighted Albania’s leadership of the initiative and focused on regional developments and strengthening cooperation in response to common security challenges.
The US-Adriatic Charter, established during the NATO Summit in Prague in November 2002, is a regional security initiative initially agreed upon by the presidents of Albania, Croatia, North Macedonia, and the USA, later expanding to include Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Kosova, Slovenia, and Serbia hold observer status.
