Hovenier: USA and partners concerned about some political decisions made by the Kurti government

Ambassador Jeffrey Hovenier of the United States in Kosovo stated in a press conference that they are concerned about some political decisions made by the Kurti government. According to him, these decisions hinder Kosovo’s progress.

The diplomat’s statement was made following a visit to Gjakova, where he was asked about the relations between the United States and the Kosovo government.

“Sometimes I feel like everyone wants to be a psychiatrist and diagnose some mental illness or something similar. There are many people who spend time worrying about this issue. I want to say what I always say. The commitment of the United States to the people of Kosovo is strong and unwavering as always, and that is why I am here today with the mayor of Gjakova to discuss and advance initiatives that promote economic growth and jobs and to meet with representatives of communities about what more the government can do for them. I have often said: we have been with the people of Kosovo, we are with the people of Kosovo, and we will be with the people of Kosovo. This does not mean that we will agree with every decision made by any Kosovo government. My government, along with some partners we work with, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the European Union, have some concerns about some political decisions made by the Kurti government, which hinder progress,” Hovenier stated.

Hovenier mentioned that after the approval of the Law on the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council and the Independent Media Commission, he discussed with government officials.

American Ambassador Jeffrey Hovenier, together with Gjakova Mayor Ardian Gjini, met with communities.
