On February 7, 2020, the singer Nexhmije Pagarusha passed away.

She is renowned as one of the Albanian singers with the most unique and powerful voice. Nexhmije Pagarusha, born on May 7, 1933, in the village of Pagarushe near Malisheva, continues to inspire many generations after her.

The “Queen of Albanian Music,” Nexhmije Pagarusha, gained fame in Albania and neighboring countries, thanks to her unique soprano vocals. Pagarusha attended music school in Belgrade and began her singing career in 1948 on the airwaves of Radio Prishtina. Over four decades, she cultivated her artistry in various genres, including folk, classical music, and opera performances.

The most popular song in her repertoire is “Baresha,” which has received numerous awards. Pagarusha’s last concert was held in 1984 in Sarajevo. On this anniversary, the General Directorate of Archives is publishing photographs of Pagarusha’s visit to the “Jordan Misja” Artistic High School in April 1971.
