Today, March 13, 1940, marks the passing of the photographer Kel Marubi. The General Directorate of Archives (DPA) is commemorating his death by showcasing moments from his life and creativity as a tribute.

Kel Marubi learned his craft in Lyon, at the first school of photography and cinema founded by the Lumière brothers. After returning to his homeland at the end of the 1920s, he began working as a professional photographer in Shkodër. He immortalized moments of daily life and the public activities of political leaders of the time on celluloid.

Kel Marubi was involved in the Albanian National Renaissance, participating in the founding of many associations related to the Albanian language, as well as in the publication of the newspaper “Zëri i Shkodra” in 1908. His work as a photographer gained international recognition, primarily thanks to the album he created for the royal family of the king of Montenegro. Photo albums such as “Traces of National History in Shkodër” and “By the Lumière” were published from his work.

DPA also published a letter from Lasgush Poradec sent by Marubi with the request to print and send some photos against payment. Additionally, the photo shows an advertising leaflet of the photographic establishment “Marubi.”
