The literary genius Ismail Kadare may no longer be with us, but his works, the greatest treasure he left behind, continue to enrich the lives of countless readers.

Bookstores in Tirana are seeing these days a significant increase of customers seeking Kadare’s books as a way to keep their favorite writer close.

Booksellers report that alongside with Albanians, a considerable number of foreign tourists have shown interest in acquiring Kadare’s works upon hearing the news of his passing.

“The news of Kadare’s death has deeply affected many people, prompting them to discover his literature. The news spread to foreign media as well, resulting in many tourists coming to buy his works,” said one bookseller.

As for the age group interested in Kadare’s writings, it spans all ages, with people of all generations and walks of life are showing interest in his works.

“Almost everyone reads Kadare. His works are also part of school curricula, so both adults and teenagers read Kadare”.

His works have been translated into over 45 foreign languages, introducing Albania to the world through its rich history and culture.
