Kallas: Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue Stalled, EU Exploring Alternative Tools for Normalization

Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Policy, stated that the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue has stalled, and the EU is now considering alternative methods to advance the normalization of relations between the two countries. In an interview with Radio Free Europe, Kallas expressed her willingness to explore new options alongside EU Special Representative for Dialogue, Peter Sorensen.

Kallas emphasized that the primary goal remains the normalization of relations, whether through continued dialogue or other measures. “We will gather ideas and come up with a proposal,” she said.

Acknowledging the current impasse, Kallas stressed the importance of staying focused on the ultimate objective: enabling both Kosovo and Serbia to move forward on their European paths. “It could be the dialogue, or another approach. I am ready to explore this with the Special Representative in the coming days,” Kallas added.

On the topic of protests in Serbia, Kallas described them as a sign of functioning democracy, noting that protests also occur in EU member states. “This is democracy; people protest when they grow frustrated with their governments. It shows democracy is working,” she said.

Kallas also announced plans to visit the Western Balkans next week to discuss with regional leaders the next steps in the normalization process between Kosovo and Serbia.
