KFOR Commander Meets with Kurti: Working to Reduce Actions Leading to Tensions

Prime Minister Albin Kurti met today with KFOR’s new commander, Major General Enrico Barduani.

In a KFOR statement, Major General Barduani highlighted KFOR’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all residents of Kosovo, ensuring freedom of movement at all times, impartially and consistently.

The commander reaffirmed KFOR’s support for the EU-mediated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, emphasizing it as the sole platform for resolving outstanding issues and reaching solutions that respect the rights of all communities. He stressed that this is key to sustainable security throughout Kosovo and regional stability.

“Major General Barduani also underscored his strong commitment to fostering coordinated efforts with all his counterparts to reduce the potential for actions that could escalate tensions,” the statement said.

KFOR remains dedicated to fulfilling its mandate, established under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999, to ensure a safe environment and freedom of movement across Kosovo.

“KFOR acts as the third security responder, after the Kosovo Police and the EU’s Rule of Law Mission (EULEX), with whom we maintain close coordination,” the statement concluded.
