KFOR is increasing its presence and activity in the north of Kosova

In light of the recent developments, KFOR is also increasing its presence and activity in northern Kosova.

In an announcement for the Kosovan media, KFOR emphasized that the purpose of the mission is to maintain security and freedom of movement for all people living in Kosova.

“The decision comes after the violent attack on the Kosova Police on September 24 and the increase of tensions in the region. This is a cautious step to ensure that KFOR has the necessary forces, capabilities and flexibility to meet its UN mandate to maintain a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all people who live in Kosova. KFOR will continue to act impartially to the benefit of the security in Kosova and the region. KFOR will continue to adjust its position, as needed,” KFOR statement says.

“The UK is deploying around 200 soldiers from the 1st Battalion “The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment” to join a contingent of 400 UK troops already exercising duty in Kosova, and further reinforcements will follow from other allies,” said the mission representing the International Armed Forces in Kosova, among other things.

KFOR has also called for re-engagement in dialogue, seeing it as the only way to achieve lasting peace and stability for all communities.

“We call on Belgrade and Prishtina to re-engage in EU-facilitated dialogue, which is the only way to achieve sustainable peace and stability for all communities. All parties should also refrain from inflammatory rhetoric, which is counterproductive and risks further escalating of tensions,” KFOR states.
