Albanian President Bajram Begaj considers the kidnapping of three Kosovo police officers inside Kosova territory by Serbian troops a serious provocative act to destabilize Kosova and the region. The head of state said that the “escalation to de-escalation” strategies must end.

While condemning this act, President Begaj called on the Serbian authorities to immediately release the Kosova police personnel.

“The the kidnapping of three Kosova Police officers inside Kosova territory by Serbian troops is a serious provocative act to destabilize Kosova and the entire region.

I strongly condemn this act and call on the Serbian authorities to release the Kosovan operatives,” said Begaj while also calling on international partners to intervene and discourage other similar actions.

Begaj also emphasized that the coordination between the US and the EU for the return to the dialogue table between Pristina and Belgrade is very important

“I make a fraternal appeal to the Kosova authorities not to fall prey to provocations and to contribute to the de-tensioning of the situation. The coordination between the US and the EU for the return to the dialogue table is very important,” he concluded.

The Kosovo Police announced yesterday (June 14), that three of its officers at the border point Tresave/Bare were kidnapped by Serbian forces. According to the police, “the kidnapped officers announced that they spotted masked and armed persons and requested reinforcements”.
