Kolë Idromeno (1860–1939) was a multi-talented artist from Shkodër. He was a painter, sculptor, photographer, musician, architect, and scenographer. He is known as the founder of modern Albanian painting.

First, Idromeno introduced cinema to Albania in 1913 by opening the country’s first movie theater in Shkodër. He also designed and built over 60 important buildings, both public and private.

Born in Shkodër, his family originally came from Parga. His father was a craftsman and teacher who influenced his early training. Later, Kolë studied art in Venice but left after six months to work directly with local artists.

Idromeno opened his photography studio in 1883, producing famous works like The Shkodër Wedding and The Courtyard of a Shkodër House.

As a painter, he created realistic portraits and scenes inspired by Albanian life. His famous work includes the portrait of his sister, Motra Tone.

In addition, he contributed to theater by designing sets and props. His skills as a sculptor and craftsman supported many local productions.

Furthermore, Kolë was a skilled architect. He designed notable buildings such as the villa of President Ahmet Zogu, the Shkodër electric power plant, and the “Rozafat” cinema.Kolë Idromeno shaped Albanian art, architecture, and cinema. His legacy continues to inspire artists and historians today.
