Konispol, Albania’s Southernmost Town, Rich in Nature and Cultural Heritage

Experts from the National Institute of Cultural Heritage visited Konispol to explore and document its cultural assets.
Their fieldwork focused on the town’s urban development, examples of vernacular architecture, and traditional building techniques that have been preserved over time.
The collected materials will support further studies aimed at declaring Konispol a site of cultural interest.
Konispol sits at the southernmost point of Albania. It has been known since antiquity and was once inhabited by the Kaon clan.
Visitors often praise its calm atmosphere, clean air, and stunning views. Nearby lies the Qafë-Bota Border Crossing to Greece, a gateway for both returning migrants from Greece and tourists interested in discovering this small town.
Konispol is also home to cultural landmarks like the fortified ancient settlement of Çuka e Ajtoit.
