Kosova Assembly Constituted, Nenad Rashic Elected Deputy Speaker

Tirana, October 10 – The Assembly of Kosova constituted on Friday, electing Nenad Rashic as deputy speaker representing the Serb community. This ended an eight-month institutional deadlock.
Rashic was the only remaining candidate. Earlier, none of the nine candidates from the Serb List secured enough support from MPs.
Assembly Speaker Dimal Basha clarified that no draw was necessary. Rashic remained the sole candidate, and the Assembly voted him in according to regulations.
MPs from the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosova voted in favor, giving Rashic 71 votes. Nine deputies voted against, and 24 abstained. The Democratic Party of Kosova and the Alliance for the Future of Kosova abstained. The Serb List voted against him.
MP Hykmete Bajrami of the Democratic League of Kosova said the vote followed a recent Constitutional Court ruling, which confirmed Rashic’s right to be elected deputy speaker from the Serb community.
Earlier, the Constitutional Court had given the Assembly 12 days to complete its constitution after recent elections. With Rashic’s election, the Assembly’s constitution is complete.
