Kosova Assembly faces risk of new deadlock in effort to form new legislature

Kosova Assembly resumes work today to constitute the ninth legislature. A new deadlock appears likely after yesterday’s failed session. Serbian MP Nenad Rashic did not secure enough votes for the post of deputy speaker. He received 55 votes from 95 MPs present.
Rashic said he expects to secure more than 61 votes tomorrow. He called the process a “small battle” with symbolic importance. He referred to the “ugly period” of Serbian political representation in Kosova.
Melos Kolshi from the Kosova Justice Institute suggested repeating the vote for deputy speakers from communities. He said the process must follow standard procedures. Political analyst Dritëro Arifi warned that a new deadlock could occur if the Assembly repeats yesterday’s scenario. He added that delays are senseless and require more seriousness in policymaking.
The constitutional deadline is approaching. Failure to reach consensus could trigger a political crisis. Tomorrow’s session will decide whether the Assembly can avoid a new deadlock and begin functioning.
