Kosova Assembly holds extraordinary session on Specialist Chambers law

The Assembly of Kosova is holding an extraordinary session today to consider amendments to the law on the Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office. The Assembly’s Legislation Committee approved the initiative with 9 votes in favour and none against. The Democratic Party of Kosova (PDK) proposed the changes.
PDK lawmaker Përparim Gruda said the proposed law does not require constitutional review by the Constitutional Chamber in The Hague. The Kosova government also cleared the way for the initiative on Friday. It concluded that no legal obstacles prevent the Assembly from considering the bill.
Meanwhile, protesters have gathered outside the Assembly in support of the proposed amendments. They have called on lawmakers to approve the changes. The protesters remained outside the building overnight and said they would stay until the parliamentary process ends. They have also called for citizens to join the protest regardless of political affiliation.
