Kosova Liberation, Osmani to Blair: Hero of Freedom and Democracy! Former UK Prime Minister: You Must Join the European Family

Kosovan President Vjosa Osmani stated that former British Prime Minister Tony Blair is the hero of Kosova’s freedom and democracy. Speaking at a joint conference with Blair on the 25th anniversary of the country’s liberation, Osmani was expressed that Kosova is one of Blair’s most successful legacies and a testament to the necessity of defending peace and democracy at all times.
“Seeing the gratitude of our citizens toward you for siding with justice is profound. In 1999, your role as British Prime Minister during NATO’s intervention in Kosova was decisive. You were a hero of freedom and democracy and remain a hero of peace for the righteous decision made then.
In April 1999, you described the intervention in Kosova as a just cause. With NATO’s allied forces, you saved us from the genocidal the regime of Milosevic.
It was a battle between civilization and barbarism, between democracy and dictatorship. Kosova today stands as one of your most successful legacies, a lesson that the defense of peace and democracy is everyone’s duty at all times. Today, that need for peace and democracy is in Ukraine, and Europe must be defended at all costs.
Many children from that time bear your name, some of whom we will meet today. They are growing up alongside Kosova, the country that you helped to liberate.
Today you are in Kosova for the third time since the war, and you will see how far Kosova has progressed. Your legacy in Kosova is one of hope, freedom, and enduring partnership. We are honored to have you as an ally of Kosova,” said Osmani.
In response, Blair stated that he has always believed NATO’s intervention in Kosova during the war, was the right thing to do. He underscored that he eagerly awaits the day Kosova joins the larger European family.
“I congratulate you for your courage and unwavering determination to harness the good from the liberation 25 years ago.
At that time, I was convinced it was the right thing to do, and now I am convinced we must stand by the people of Kosova to ensure it fully aligns with the merits of its people.
Many positive things are happening here that serve as lessons for the entire world. I eagerly look forward to the day when Kosova, as an independent and sovereign people, takes its rightful place in the family of nations and serves as an example to the world. Soon, I will address the Assembly members to express my gratitude and solidarity with the people of Kosova who experienced that time,” Blair said.
