Kosova-Serbia dialogue, Lajçak and Escobar to visit Prishtina and Belgrade on January 20

The EU’s special envoy for dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, is expected to visit Kosova on January 20, and then he will travel to Serbia in the framework of the continuation of the dialogue between Prishtina and Belgrade.

Lajcak will be accompanied by the American emissary for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, reports REL.

The two envoys have recently acted jointly in order to increase the likelihood of success in the dialogue.

Brussels have said several times that the EU-US joint engagement has proved useful in persuading the parties to reduce tensions. On January 9, Escobar and Lajçak met with the NATO countries ambassadors, with whom they discussed the situation in Kosova and the region, and presented to them the plans for the continuation of the Kosova-Serbia dialogue, which is mediated by the European bloc.

According to sources, a broad agreement has already been reached to support the Franco-German proposal for a basic agreement between Kosovs and Serbia. The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, has said that this proposal is a “European proposal” and has the support of all EU states. The US also supports this plan.
