Kosova-Serbia relations, Lajcak: At present, the focus is more on crisis management rather than the normalization of relations

The EU envoy for the Kosova-Serbia Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, has considered the Ohrid agreement, between Kosova and Serbia, as a historic moment for the normalization of relations between the two countries.

In an interview for the “Kurir” newspaper in Belgrade, Lajcak said that this agreement was “undermined” by the local elections that were held in the municipalities in the north of Kosova. Lajcak points out that at present, the EU is more focused on crisis management than the normalization of relations between the two countries.

“The March agreement is a historic moment in the normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosova. We know exactly what needs to be done. But there are many “landmines” along this path that we must not step on. April’s local elections were one and unfortunately we stepped on them. Currently, our focus is not on normalization, but on crisis management,” stated Lajcak.

The elections in the north of Kosova took place without the participation of the Serbian List. The placement of the Albanian mayors in the Municipal buildings escalated the situation even more, with the violent protests of the Serbian community.
