Kosovan PM Kurti calls for respect of election result, says institutions must be formed

TIRANA, June 19 – Kosova’s acting Prime Minister and Self-Determination leader Albin Kurti said political parties should act in line with the results of the early elections held on 7 June.

He thanked Self-Determination activists and congratulated opposition parties for their electoral results.

Kurti said the vote counting process ended the previous day. He expressed gratitude for what he described as strong public trust from citizens in Kosova and the diaspora. He also said thousands of volunteers, members and activists ensured the smooth conduct of the elections. According to him, Self-Determination emerged first with a clear result, while opposition parties also achieved their respective outcomes.

At the same time, Kurti said political actors now await certification of the results. He added that the process should lead to the formation of new institutions. He said the 7 June result showed no need for new elections, as the outcome remained broadly similar to previous ballots. He stressed the need to act according to the will expressed by citizens. Self-Determination, he said, reconfirmed its position as the first party with 53 members of parliament in the Assembly of Kosova.
Later, Kurti said delays since last year had created lost time for governance. He called for the establishment of a constituted parliament, a full-mandate government and an elected president as soon as possible. He said Kosova must now move forward with institutional formation and continued development work.

In the 7 June elections, Self-Determination, led by Albin Kurti, won the largest share of seats among Albanian parties in the Assembly with 53 members of parliament. The Democratic Party of Kosova secured 22 seats. The Democratic League of Kosova won 18 seats. The Alliance for the Future of Kosova obtained 7 seats.
