Kosovan President Osmani from Brussels: Kosova’s future lies in the EU

TIRANA, December 17 – According to KosovaPress, Kosovan President Vjosa Osmani traveled to Brussels to attend the EU–Western Balkans Summit with European Union leaders and regional heads of state.

Officials said Osmani spoke to Euronews today, where she discussed Kosova’s European perspective.

The President said that Kosova’s future lies in the European Union, which the country has worked toward for many years.

Osmani said Kosova would join the EU. She added that the country had applied years ago and hoped to sit at the Council table very soon. She said Kosova had contributed to the values on which the EU had stood for centuries. She acknowledged that the process is complex, as five countries still do not recognize Kosova. She added that EU membership would benefit not only Kosovo’s population but also hold strategic importance for the continent.

On reforms, Osmani said Kosova fully aligned with EU foreign security policies, including sanctions against Russia and other international wrongdoers. She said the country led in rule of law according to international indices, including Gallup International. Kosova ranked first in Europe and third globally in fighting crime and corruption. She added that economic and administrative reforms also placed Kosovo ahead in the region. She acknowledged unfinished tasks but said political complications, not internal performance, slowed progress.

On Ukraine, Osmani said Kosova supported Ukraine’s EU membership. She stressed that Europe must advance toward freedom, peace, and unity as envisioned by the EU founders. She warned that strategic rivals such as China, Russia, and Iran would act where the EU and transatlantic partners did not. She said it was crucial for both Ukraine and the Western Balkans to move forward together.
