Kosova’s Foreign Ministry Urges Citizens to Avoid Travel Through Serbia, Cites Repressive Practices

Kosova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora urged its citizens today to avoid travel through Serbia. The Ministry said this advice follows the arrest of a Kosova Albanian citizen after he entered Serbian territory.
It called on the international community to respond to what it described as repressive practices by Serbian authorities. The Ministry said these practices violate fundamental principles of international law and international human rights conventions.
Officials noted that the warning aims to protect the safety and well-being of Kosova citizens.
Authorities reported that Hazir Haziri, a Kosova Albanian citizen, was arrested at the Merdare border point after entering Serbia.
The Ministry said it notified the EU Delegation in Serbia and diplomatic representatives of QUINT countries about the incident.
It added that the Kosovo Liaison Office sent a formal request to Serbian authorities to confirm Haziri’s arrest and clarify the legal reasons for his detention. The Ministry said that if the authorities impose pre-trial detention or start criminal proceedings, the Kosova Liaison Office will request an official visit to the detention center.
