Kosova’s Inclusion in Adriatic Charter Initiative Urged by Albanian Defense Minister

At the Adriatic Charter Initiative (US-A5) Chiefs of Defense conference in Tirana, Albanian Defense Minister Pirro Vengu advocated for Kosova’s inclusion in the initiative, underscoring Albania’s steadfast support for regional cooperation and security.
Minister Vengu highlighted Albania’s ongoing commitment to the Adriatic Charter, established in 2003, and noted that current geopolitical shifts demand enhanced defense capabilities. He emphasized that addressing both conventional threats, such as the Russian aggression in Ukraine, and unconventional threats like cyber attacks and terrorism requires a unified response.
“The geopolitical landscape is evolving, and the nature of threats is becoming more complex. By strengthening our cooperation, we improve our defense capacities to swiftly tackle these emerging challenges,” Vengu said.
The minister reaffirmed Albania’s role as a central hub for regional dialogue and cooperation, detailing the country’s leadership in the Adriatic Charter Initiative, including hosting the Balkan Chiefs of Defense meeting and the upcoming SEDM ministerial.
Vengu also cautioned against the malign influences of Russia, China, and Iran in the region, asserting that Albania must remain vigilant and united against these threats. He stressed the Adriatic Charter’s achievements and called for Kosova’s participation, highlighting NATO and the EU’s vital role in regional stability and the indispensable contribution of the United States.
Concluding his address, Vengu underscored the importance of continued partnership and commitment to securing a safer future for future generations.
