Kosova’s PM Kurti: Will Invite Opposition Leaders for Talks, Kosova Does Not Need New Elections

TIRANA, March 13 – Kosova Prime Minister Albin Kurti said he will invite opposition party leaders to a meeting early next week to seek an agreement on electing the country’s president.

Speaking after the inauguration of renovated facilities at the Institute of Pathological Anatomy at the University Clinical Center of Kosova (QKUK), Kurti said the country needs institutional stability, not new elections.

He noted that he had previously held meetings with the leaders of the Democratic League of Kosova (LDK) and the Democratic Party of Kosova (PDK). However, he regretted that no talks took place in the final 48 hours before the constitutional deadline on March 5.

Kurti stressed that Kosova has already gone through several electoral processes and repeating them would not benefit the country. He added that around €120 million in international agreements have been delayed due to the Assembly’s blockage, while new elections would cost at least €10 million.

He emphasized that institutions should focus on reaching an agreement for electing the president and restoring the Assembly’s work. Kurti also called for a Constitutional Court ruling to help resolve the situation.

According to him, citizens expect institutional stability rather than repeated elections.
