Kosovo Adopts Resolution Defending Former KLA Leaders

The Kosovo Assembly approved a resolution defending former KLA leaders at The Hague.

The vote passed with 90 in favor, one against, and no abstentions. LDK did not vote.

The resolution calls on the Specialist Chambers and Prosecutor’s Office to follow constitutional and international standards. It stresses fair and impartial trials. It demands transparency and accountability.

It requires protection of the accused’s fundamental rights, including Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, and Rexhep Selimi. The resolution aligns with European Court of Human Rights standards.

It orders the Ombudsperson to act independently and impartially. It urges democratic states and international contributors to ensure compliance with trial standards.

It encourages monitoring by international and local NGOs. They should track rights protections and report violations. Kosovo commits to provide support, including financial, for the defense of KLA leaders and fighters.

It affirms dedication to uphold KLA values and the country’s historical foundation.
