The United States of America expects Kosovo and Serbia to urgently implement the agreements reached.

For this reason, the American ambassador in Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, has requested the complete de-tensioning of the situation in the north.

“We want to see two things, the first is the de-escalation of the situation in the north of the country, the second we want to see Kosovo and Serbia fully implementing the full agreement reached in Ohrid”, he emphasized in handing over 250 body cameras, donation to the Kosovo Police.

According to him, the implementation of these points will help Kosovo towards full integration in the European Union.

“For Kosovo, it is important to work with the urgency to negotiate with the local Serbs so that they are part of the processes. The Government of Serbia must also deal with the obligations it has in coordination with the international community”, he said.

As for the meeting with the Serbian List with Washington’s special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, he emphasized that the US wants and expects the Serbian List to participate in the elections.

“I saw some comments of the Serbian List after the meeting and I want to emphasize a few things. The first is that the USA considers Kosovo to be a state, and since the declaration of independence in 2008, we have recognized it to be a sovereign, independent and democratic state.

The work we do with the Serbian List, as a political party of Kosovo, is the work we do with other opposition parties in Kosovo. There should be no question or suggestion about the position of the USA that Kosovo is an independent state. And that includes the north of Kosovo, as I have said many times, we know exactly where the border is. It is the north of Mitrovica.

We want Serbian List  play its role as a political party in sovereign, independent and democratic Kosovo. We do not consider it a Serbian political party, we consider it a party of ethnic Serbs in Kosovo. We must make this clear”, he declared.
