Kosovo and Serbia Agree on Joint Commission for Missing Persons

Kosovo and Serbia have agreed to fully implement the joint declaration on missing persons following a trilateral meeting with the EU’s special envoy, Miroslav Lajčak, in Brussels. A joint commission will be established in January to address the issue of missing persons, with full support from the EU. According to the Red Cross, there are still 1,612 people missing from the Kosovo war. Both sides have committed to ensuring the commission’s work proceeds without interference.

Despite the agreement, none of the commitments from the joint declaration have been fully implemented yet. The EU will continue pressing for both sides to fulfill their obligations for normalization, which is crucial for their EU integration. Kosovo will be urged to start the process of establishing the Serb-majority municipalities, while Serbia must recognize Kosovo’s documents and symbols.
