Kosovo election results certified: Vetëvendosje wins majority, Assembly to convene within 30 days

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kosovo certified the results of the early parliamentary elections held on December 28 with 11 votes in favor. Two members from the Vetëvendosje Movement also voted in favor.

Sami Kurteshi mentioned the Serbian List and his party’s reservations regarding the group representing Kosovo’s Serbian community. Arianit Elshani from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) expressed a similar concern. He also called for changes to the Election Law to address issues with postal voting and vote counting, especially for parliamentary candidates. CEC Chair Kreshnik Radoniqi said the election administration institution should also play a role in this process.

According to the certified results, Vetëvendosje won over 51 percent of the votes, securing 57 seats in the Assembly. The Democratic Party of Kosovo came second with 20.19 percent, earning 22 seats. The Democratic League of Kosovo followed with 13.24 percent, or 15 seats. The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo gained 5.50 percent, translating into six seats.

From the seats reserved for the Serbian minority, the Serbian List won nine seats, while the Party for Freedom, Justice, and Survival, led by Nenad Rashić, took one. Non-Serb minorities secured 10 seats.

The certification process followed a full recount of valid votes. The next step is the Assembly’s constitutive session, which the President of Kosovo must call within 30 days. Afterwards, a new government will form, with President Vjosa Osmani mandating a representative of the winning party as prime minister.
