Kosovo Faces Deadlock as Osmani Urges Quick Assembly Formation

President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, continues meetings with political party representatives. She aims to find a solution to unblock the political deadlock in the Assembly.
After the meeting, Guxo party co-leader Faton Peci spoke to the media. He said these consultations aim to end the institutional blockade.
Furthermore, he called on all parties to act with reason. “They must enable the election of the Assembly speaker and allow the Assembly to form. Only then can a government be created within 15 days,” Peci said.
However, he pointed out legal uncertainty about the 30-day deadline. “There is a real chance that the president may ask the Constitutional Court for clarification. Especially since more than 30 days have passed since the first failed attempt on April 15,” he explained.
Later in the day, Osmani will meet representatives of non-majority communities.
One day earlier, she met with the main party leaders: Albin Kurti (Vetëvendosje), Memli Krasniqi (PDK), Lumir Abdixhiku (LDK), and Ramush Haradinaj (AAK).
After that meeting, Kurti promised to help form the Assembly. “We had a long discussion and reviewed all key elements. The president will continue talks with other leaders. Hopefully, we’ll make progress soon,” he said.
Meanwhile, other major parties met with Osmani separately on Wednesday. They repeated their request for an open vote to elect the speaker.
Currently, Kosovo remains without institutions. Four months have passed since the elections, yet the Assembly is still not formed.
During her meetings, Osmani urged party leaders to reach an agreement quickly. She reminded them of the 30-day deadline set by the Constitutional Court.
Finally, her adviser, Bekim Kupina, confirmed on June 30 that Osmani expects parties to respect the court’s decision. They must complete the constitutive session within the legal deadline.
