Kosovo pushes for EU candidate status in Kurti–Kos call

Albin Kurti, Prime Minister of Kosovo, held a phone call with Marta Kos, the European Union Commissioner for Enlargement.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the two discussed EU enlargement and Kosovo’s reform progress toward European integration.
During the conversation, Kurti stressed that EU membership remains a key priority for Kosovo’s government. He also underlined the importance of obtaining EU candidate status as a crucial step toward membership.
Furthermore, Kurti noted that among the first decisions of the Assembly of Kosovo were the approval of the new €4 billion state budget and the €882.6 million Growth Plan. The plan aims to accelerate reforms and boost the country’s economic development.
Following its approval, several implementation steps are planned for the first half of the year. These measures depend largely on the adoption of key laws in parliament, with a value of around €90 million.
Finally, Kurti and Kos discussed current developments in Kosovo and the wider region. They also noted that Kosovo has fully aligned with the EU’s foreign and security policy, including joining all EU sanctions packages against Russia in response to the war against Ukraine.
