Kosovo-Serbia chief negotiators meeting in Brussels/ Bislimi: We agreed with the EU proposal, Serbia asked for additional time

Following the failure to find a solution to the dinar issue at the joint meeting with the Serbian chief negotiator, Petar Petković, mediated by the EU’s Special Representative for the Dialogue, Miroslav Lajčák in Brussels, Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi has stated that Pristina has agreed to the proposal of the EU envoy regarding the dinar issue, but the Serbian side has requested additional time.

“Given the impossibility of reaching a compromise, Lajčák has put forward a consolidated proposal which we believe is constructive and on the right path to finding a solution, which most benefits Serbian citizens in Kosovo. The Serbian side was not willing to consider this proposal and requested additional time. The next meeting is expected to be held in Brussels in two weeks,” declared Bislimi.

According to Bislimi, today’s meeting was scheduled with the idea for the parties to reflect, while he added that the Serbian side has requested more time because they lacked decision-making competencies.

“They have been made clear that the next meeting can only take place if they are willing to come up with compromise ideas. Today we also had significant differences, as the Kosovar side discussed options for how Serbian citizens could continue to receive financial support from Serbia. The Serbian side acted as advocates for the ‘Postanska banka’ and constantly discussed how to regulate the licensing of this bank, which is neither competent nor in the interest of the parties involved,” expressed Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister.

Bislimi has warned that the next meeting is expected to be held in Brussels in two weeks, while regarding today’s meeting, he said there was no discussion about the new regulation of the Central Bank of Kosovo, because “there is no discussion about it.”

“This meeting was neither the last nor the first about the dinar. The meeting is to discuss the models through which Serbia can continue to provide financial support for Serbs in Kosovo, within the regulations of the Central Bank of Kosovo. The regulation does not mention the dinar, therefore there are no discussions about it,” he told the media.
