Kurti accepts the US proposal, to postpone by 48 hours the decision on fines for Serbian license plates

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has accepted the US proposal to postpone by 48 hours the decision to impose fines of 150 Euro for illegal Serbian license plates. Although no agreement was reached at the negotiating table in Brussels between Kosova and Serbia, mediated by the EU, Kurti seems to be making an effort to negotiate.

Through a post on the Facebook social network, Kurti expresses satisfied to work with the US and the EU to find a solution in the next 2 days.

“I thank Ambassador Hovenier for his commitment. I accept his request for a postponement of 48 hours for imposing fines for illegal license plates “KM” (and others). I am happy to work with the US and the EU to find a solution over the next two days,” Kurti writes.

Kurt’s reaction comes after the call made by the US ambassador to Kosova, Jeff Hovenier. “The United States is concerned that the leaders of Kosova and Serbia have not been able to reach an agreement (yesterday). We have asked the government of Kosova to postpone for 48 hours the imposition of fines to allow the EU and the US to further engage the parties to find a solution”, wrote Hovenier.

Prime Minister Kurti and President Vucic met in Brussels with the mediation of the EU, but they did not reach any solution on the license plate issue. The High Representative of the EU, Joseph Borrell, and the Special Representative of the EU, Miroslav Lajçak, participated in this meeting.
