Kurti: If KFOR does not remove the barricades as soon as possible, Kosova will have to remove them

“If KFOR does not remove the barricades as soon as possible, Kosova will have to remove them by her own”. This is what Kosova Prime Minister, Albin Kurti stated during an interview for the Bosnian television “O Kanal”.
This situation for Kurti cannot last any longer, while he said that the installation of barricades constitutes a violation and oppression of the constitutional order, the law as well as the order of the country. “But in the first place, it is against the freedom of movement”, Kosova Prime Minister further emphasizes.
“We asked KFOR before Christmas. And we are very sorry that KFOR is delaying this. I don’t know why it is stalled and why KFOR is not doing it. I don’t even know what conversations they had there. But I know this can’t last long. If KFOR is unable to remove the barricades or, for reasons unknown to me, will not do so, then we will have to do it. Because the barricades mainly block the Serbs in the north. They are a violation and oppression of our constitutional order and our law and order. But in the first place it is against the freedom of movement”, said Kurti.
According to Kurti, the removal of the barricades is possible by the Kosova authorities, while he added that according to him, the people stationed at the border receive directives from Belgrade.
“From our side it is possible. But the other side is unknown to us. People are in uniform. You don’t know how each of them will react when our police approach. I know one thing. They receive directives from Belgrade. And as people change there, it is clear that what is autonomous and authentic does not come from the citizens themselves,” said Kurti.
As 18 days have passed since the installation of barricades in the north of Kosova, Serbia has put the troops on increased alert. On December 10, Serbs in northern Kosova erected barricades to protest the arrest of a former police officer suspected of attacks against Electoral Commission Office. Kosova Security Council, meeting on Monday, blamed Serbia for the latest deterioration of relations.
