Kurti is optimistic about the Kosovo-Serbia agreement

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said on Sunday that he is optimistic that a legally binding agreement with Serbia will be reached in the coming months. He made these statements in the framework of the 102nd Rose-Roth seminar of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which was held this time in Pristina. In the ongoing discussion with the participants, Kurti said that in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, which is mediated by the European Union in Brussels, a new approach has been created, mentioning the general framework of the agreement.
According to him, “the dialogue should not only serve for crisis management, but the dialogue should be for agreements. Now we have entered a new phase, since August 18 of this year. This is a new phase because the first topic in the office of (European Union chief diplomat Josep) Borrell in Brussels was the general framework of the agreement. Now I am much more optimistic, because, compared to the past, when the recognition of independence was at the end of the process, and it was turning this issue into a motivation for procrastinating the process, now mutual recognition is not at the end, but at the center of the agreement “.
He did not exclude the discussion of other topics within the dialogue, but he insisted that the central part is “mutual recognition”. Kosovo and Serbia have started negotiations for the normalization of relations in 2011, with the mediation of the European Union. The negotiation process is expected to end with legally binding agreements.
