Kurti Meets Rutte: Concern Over Serbia’s Election Interference

Kosova’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, welcomed NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to the government headquarters today, marking Rutte’s first visit in this role.

Kurti congratulated Rutte on his new position and wished him success in leading the Alliance during this critical period for European and global security.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for NATO’s vital role in maintaining peace and security in Kosova. According to an official statement, he emphasized that Kosova’s aspiration to join NATO reflects its commitment to shared democratic values, the rule of law, and security, as well as its readiness to contribute to the Alliance’s further strengthening.

Kurti thanked Secretary General Rutte for NATO’s close cooperation with Kosovo’s security institutions, particularly through the KFOR mission, and for its continued support of the Ministry of Defense and the Kosovo Security Force via the NALT advisory mission.

“The discussion highlighted Kosova’s free and democratic parliamentary elections, with participation from all minority communities. However, the Prime Minister raised concerns over Serbia’s direct interference, backed by Russia, through pressure, blackmail, and disinformation targeting the Serbian community. He noted that EU observer reports have documented the spread of disinformation by Russian media outlets operating in Serbia, such as ‘RT Balkans’ and ‘Sputnik Srbija’, which published over 60 articles aimed at manipulating Kosovo’s Serbian community”.

Kurti thanked the NATO Secretary General for his visit and for NATO’s continued support for Kosovo and its citizens, reaffirming Kosova’s commitment to remaining a reliable ally in the defense of democratic values.
